The Scene:
After receiving the previous Rules Tip which explained why you have to count your whiffs, one of our members argued, “But that’s an 18-holers’ rule. The Niners don’t have to count their whiffs.”
What would you answer?
A. Everyone plays by the same rules?
B. Even the Niners’ rules make you count whiffs?
A is correct.
We don’t have special rules for the Niners. Everyone plays by the same rules – The USGA Rules of Golf.
Exceptions:
On non-tournament playdays, here, at Bay Hill, the Niners are allowed
1. to drop on the green side of the water if you first hit two balls into the water and you take an additional one stroke penalty.
2. a mulligan on the first shot of the day (when not going over water.)
3. to pick up when you reach your maximum.
Other than those few exceptions the Niners play by the same rules the 18-holers do. And in tournaments there are no exceptions.
REMEMBER: Everyone plays by the same rules.
